Ever fancied a belfast sink

Is it called a Belfast sink or a Butler sink?

We are often asked this question from customers whilst we discuss the various options of worktop fabrication details available today.

Here at Everything Stone we can manufacture your worktops around any type of Belfast/butler sink.

There are doubles…

Singles…

You can have drainer grooves leading into the sink…

You can have them without….

You can incorporate them into large islands with recessed draining boards…

Which do look stunning…

You can  have them with bowed fronts…

Which offer great character…

You can even have them projecting up out of the worktop…

Which some people would argue, ‘it’s not a real Belfast…!’  But hey, I think it still looks cool…

So what ever your fancy, there is definitely something out there to suit most people’s taste.

And in answer to the question at the beginning of the post – The Belfast sink is actually an adaptation of the Butler sink.

The Butler sink was originally designed for the Butlers pantry in London, way back in the Victorian times.

And the Butler sink was slightly larger than it’s counter part as it was designed to conserve water due to the shortage of fresh water in London, at that time.

Belfast sinks were primarily used by butlers in the Victorian times too, but designed in Belfast.

While London is further inland, Belfast is on the coast and so obtaining water was less of an issue.

In Belfast, it was less important to conserve water, and so the Belfast sinks have a slightly different design.
