The customer on this project in St Austell, chose Oriental White marble tiles due to the
mild variegation of background colour from white to grayish white, with dark grey and pearl white veining.
We imported these marble tiles direct from Xaimen in China, and installed them in a master en-suite bathroom.
Sawn to size and polished on top, with dimensions of 600mm x 600mm and 20mm thick.
We installed the marble tiles on a water proof barrier ply board which was installed by the building contractor.
A white flexible adhesive with latex additive was used to adhere the tiles to the floor & walls.
Using the latex additive means you don’t need to use water in the mix, which reduces the amount of moisture being used in the bed of adhesive.
Less moisture means less risk of staining which is an important consideration when installing marble tiles.
A black marble border and countertop were incorporated into this bathroom design.
This black marble is called Marquina and it provides great contrast with the white marble tiles, and has some lovely white veining streaking through the marble.
100mm high upstands were used at the rear of the countertop.
The tiles were also used in the shower enclosure.
All holes for the thermostatic shower controls, brackets & shelving rack were drilled on site during installation.
It’s important to seal marble tiles so they become water proof and reduce the risk of staining.
We have been using a sealer called Dry Treat Stain Proof for many years.
And recommend it for all of our natural stone products.
You can view all the necessary information on Dry Treats website here www.drytreat.com
Due to Dry Treats unique micro porous technology, the sealant actually lines the capillaries of the stone.
So it sits within the stone rather than on top like the old surface sealers used too.
This means that you don’t have to re-seal every 6 to 12 months.
You can go without re-sealing for many years.
We supply a huge range of natural stone & engineered stone tiles, some of which can be viewed at our showroom in Par near St Austell in Cornwall.
