Bathstone Columns

A customer in Truro asked us to replace their Bathstone columns at the main entrance to their town house… Bathstone is actually a limestone and there’s a few open cast limestone quarries up in and around Bath. Some of the quarry companies mine their limestone underground, i’ll show you a couple of photo’s at the end of this blog, quite amazing. We have worked with a quarry/stone mason up in Bath for many years, so after some tooing and throwing with colours, finish and detailing. We went up to Bath and collected the coloumns. Our first job is to prepare the existing heads to the columns, these were not removed as they were in pretty good shape. We then installed the column bases and prepared them for the columns. We cut the bathstone columns to the exact length on site before pre-drilling the ends of each column and the base and heads ready for the installation of the stainless steel dowels. All dowels are fitted using resin. We can now fully install both the Bathstone columns. Underground Bathstone quarry… Some old photos too…
